Receiving a satellite image

Configuring WXtoimg

To decrypt signals received from satellites, there is a special program WXtoimg, which receives an audio signal received from a satellite using the SDR # program. The first time you start WXtoimg, you must configure your location. Go to the Options → Ground Station Location section, enter the name of the city and specify your coordinates.

Then go to the Options → Recording Options section and configure the sound source. In the soundcard section, specify CABLE Output.

Then you need to update the information on the coordinates of the satellites. Go to File → Update Keplers. After the update is completed, a confirmation will appear in the lower left corner.

Each time you start WXtoimg, you must verify that the signal source is configured correctly.

Select virtual CABLE Output.

Start recording.

To receive signals, turn on Auto Record.

Now, when any NOAA satellite appears higher than 10 degrees above the horizon, the recording of the transmitted image will automatically start.

Make sure that the signal level in the lower right corner is green, if not, increase the sound volume in SDR #.

With a good signal level from below, the resulting image will begin to appear line by line. Left in the visible range, and right in the infrared.

Wait for the transfer to end, and stop recording.

Start the automatic processing of the received images.

The resulting image will be processed automatically and the contours of states will be plotted on it. Pay attention to noise that degrades the image.

This image is in Normal mode.

A whole series of images will be automatically generated from the resulting image with various filters applied. These images can be seen in the Saved Images section.

You can also switch the types of image processing in the Enhancements menu.

Increasing the contrast of channel A (visible range).

Increase the contrast of channel B (IR range).

The image in the infrared range with a card overlay. The seas are blue, the earth is green. High clouds appear white, low clouds appear gray. Darker colors indicate warmer areas.

Multispectral analysis. The image is used in the visible and infrared channels and it is determined which areas are most likely to be clouds, land or sea. The result is a bright image in false colors.

Image with blue water and flowers more suitable for the earth.

Создает ложное цветное изображение на основе температуры, используя цветовую модель HVC.

Sea surface temperature. Creates a false color image based on sea surface temperature. No attempt is made to distinguish cloud or land from the sea. Sea surface temperature may be incorrect due to the presence of thin or small clouds in the estimated pixel or due to noise in the signal.

Image in false colors, shows the temperature of the clouds and the surface. Violet is low and red is high.

It is possible to change the type of projection.

Normal projection.
